Embrace the Fall

Many people say that spring is the best season
to start a home project. But there’s no reason that starting a decorating or
home improvement project can be done in the fall as well. With the leaves
changing and the temperature dropping, there is a reason to bring a new look to
your home. Read on to see what we think are the best décor ideas for fall.
COLOR
Color doesn’t have to be a permanent choice;
we’re not saying go out and change your siding from season to season. Rather,
simple things like a throw rug or couch pillows can be transformed for the
autumnal season. Warm oranges, reds and some yellows are the main colors many
people think of when fall comes to mind. We enjoy all of those colors, but
there are other hues that work in a home for fall. Neutrals never go out of
style. Cream lampshades and tan pillows can take a living room from normal, to warm
and inviting — which is perfect for a cool fall day.
Another idea is to go bold in color choices. Turquoise
and eggplant will give that pop you’re looking for to a room, without being too
bright like pinks and purples. Adding bolder colors to any room in your house
during the fall will give you the right amount of color when the days start to
get cloudy and gloomy.
INTERIOR
As we all know, weather in the Midwest can be
crazy, no matter what time of the year it is. It could be hot like a summer day
on a Monday, and then it could be below freezing the next. Regardless of what
the weather is outside, a way to keep your home feeling cozy during fall is
lighting. Adding new sconces to your walls, or even purchasing a new lamp to go
on an end table can help illuminate a room with a warm glow that otherwise
would seem drab on a fall day. Plus, with the days getting shorter, it’s best
to have lighting for you to be able to work and read by.
What’s better than grabbing a snug blanket, a
cup of hot chocolate and sitting in front of the fireplace on a fall day? Well,
for starters, it would be good to know the state of your fireplace before
settling in front of it. As cooler days tend to be the time when people use
their fireplaces, a little maintenance is a great place to start. Contact a
chimney sweep to clean your chimney and to check for any damage. Before
enjoying your fiery show, make sure that you have a mesh metal screen or a glass
fireplace door to prevent embers from shooting out.
EXTERIOR
Though we did mention earlier in this post that we
weren’t talking about permanent changes, this one is a biggie. If you’ve
noticed condensation on your windows or even that you’re chilly in your own
home, it’s time to get your windows replaced. Don’t fret; Kelly Bros. can help
you.
We have an E-showroom
with all varieties of brands and windows that
are right for your needs.
Another, less ambitious task to spruce up the
exterior of your home in the fall is planting flowers. Yes, we know planting new flowers might seem like a spring or summer venture, but there are plants
that thrive in colder temperatures, which can leave your home looking excellent
all year round. Mums are a good choice because these sturdy flowers are
perennials. Planting them in the ground means they’ll most likely come back the
next season, but if you’re wary about that, they can easily be placed in a
planter. And with colors like maroon and gold, your home will be dressed for
fall.
