Bringing Summer to Your Kitchen

With the warmer weather finally on
the horizon, eating meals outside seems to be popular. But with these kitchen design
ideas in mind, eating inside will give you the atmosphere of dining outside —
without all those pesky mosquitoes.
What’s a better way to bring the
outside in than with a large picture window facing the backyard? However, since
all homes are created differently, your kitchen may not face your backyard. Whether
it is a single large window, or you prefer a wall of windows, it will let in
plenty of light, giving you more of an outdoor feel inside. When installing a
window, choose one that is best for your size space, proper insulation depending
on the climate of your area, and one that enables you to have the most
picturesque view. If you are installing a window above a sink, be sure that it
is a window you can easily open!
Speaking of sinks, an idea for a
more summer feel to a kitchen is installing a farmhouse (or apron-front) sink. Farmhouse
sinks tend to be set lower on the counter than traditional sinks, and hang over
the edge of the counter giving easier access to placing dishes in the sink.
Don’t have a lot of room for a large sink? No problem; there are a variety of
sizes and designs in farmhouse sinks that include both single-bowl and multi-bowl
options, depending on what you are looking for. If you have lighter cabinets, a
darker sink brings a good contrast in colors. Installing such a sink brings a
summer feel to your kitchen by bringing some country charm to your home — even
if you don’t live in the country.
Another way to bring more charm
into your home is switching up the design of your kitchen’s backsplash. Sure,
wallpaper in the kitchen may have been a popular choice in the ’80s, but in the
21st century, it is all about tile. Choosing a lighter color of tile gives a
brighter, more airy feel to a kitchen, sometimes making it feel like the
outside has been brought in. In subway tiles, colors can be mixed or a single
color, depending on what character you want to bring into your kitchen. Is subway
tiling not your style? No worries; traditional square-cut tiles come in bright
colors such as green or turquoise, allowing for a pop of color in your kitchen
that will match the summer surroundings.
Warm weather makes it possible to
spend more time outside after being cooped up during the winter months. But
with new kitchen ideas and designs like these, you will want to spend summer in
your newly designed kitchen.
