Bathroom Remodeling Trends for 2014

If you’ve been dreaming of a renovation all winter,
now is the time to put your plans into motion. And if you’re still looking for
some great ideas on how to transform your space, take a look at these
up-and-coming trends for bathroom remodels this year.
Spring is
traditionally a time of renewal and fresh beginnings. We see it in the bright
green shoots in the garden and in the fresh spaces after a thorough
spring-cleaning. Whether you’re inspired by the season’s ritual of cleaning or the
whites of winter giving way to the pastels of spring, this is the perfect time for
home renovations.
Recycled Glass Tile
Tile can transform a bathroom from drab to fab.
Recycled glass has a beautiful sheen that is reminiscent of the ocean, giving
any bathroom a warm, tropical feel. Choose from a variety of shades from clear
white to soft blues. Go with a single color for a unified look or take a tip
from this site and variegate for dramatic style. An added bonus of recycled
glass that’s its an environmentally friendly option, so you can feel that much
better about your new bathroom.
Subway Tile
Subway tile is always in fashion, making it both a
hot trend and a delightful classic. Easy to care for and giving any bathroom a
clean, crisp look, it’s no wonder subway tile has been popular since it’s
introduction in 1904. An added bonus of subway tile is durability: if it’s
durable enough to withstand billions of feet in a New York subway station,
surely it will look great after years of service to your family.
The Curbless Shower
It turns out that not
everyone needs a tub in every bathroom. If you’re not given to romantic, candlelit baths or have
a toddler or two in the house, you might consider a shower without a tub too.
Curbless showers open up your bathroom, making them feel larger and brighter. They’re
easier to clean and easier to get in and out of when mobility is limited.
Freestanding Tubs
On the other end of the spectrum is the homage to
the bathtub. A freestanding tub can take up less space than the tiled-in tub
deck and when you choose something this lovely, it’s nice to show it off.
Multi-head Showers
Multi-head showers have all the angles covered. How
have we not thought of this before now? If you enjoy a traditional shower with
just one nozzle, imagine how much you’ll love a shower with three!
Heated Floors
Heated floors in the bathroom may not be a new idea
but because it’s getting less expensive to install, more and more people can
enjoy a warm floor while they get ready to face the dark, cold winter days (or
even the blustery days of spring, for that matter). Consider adding heated
floors to your remodel to-do list and ice cold feet in the morning could be a
thing of the past.
Designer Lighting
Poor bathroom lighting can make us look old and
tired but well planned, high quality lighting can have the opposite effect,
giving us a more accurate picture of our beautiful, youthful, energetic selves.
Placement is key; one tip to remember is to avoid direct, overhead lighting
which casts those deep shadows that make you look older and more exhausted than
you feel. Choose from recessed fixtures or bold accent lighting when you
remodel your bathroom—either way with the right placement you’ll love the look
of your bathroom and the image in the mirror.
Bold Colors
Goodbye beige, farewell white; the hottest trend
this year has got to be bold colors in the bathroom. There are as many options
as there are personalities, but it looks like cobalt blue might be leading the
pack in popularity.
